There’s something about a Chicago Illuminating Company wedding that feels both elevated and grounded at the same time. Tucked away from the pace of the city, the space felt like a bit of an escape, giving everyone room to slow down, be present, and really be with one another. That feeling wasn’t something that just appeared when guests arrived, it was there from the very beginning.
Getting Ready at The Pendry Chicago
The morning started quietly at The Pendry, where everything moved with intention. No rush, no sense of urgency. Just a steady kind of anticipation as the day began to take shape as they started getting dressed and ready. Light filled the room in a way that made everything feel a little softer. Conversations lingered. Moments weren’t interrupted. When Lauren & Ben saw each other for the first time in the lobby, it was simple and honest, no big production, just the two of them taking it in. Emotions flooded out, the excitement began as they embraced one another.

From there, we stepped out into the city, making our way to the Art Institute of Chicago South Garden. The Gardens are some of my absolute favorite places in the city. It’s one of those places that feels tucked away despite being right in the middle of downtown. Clean lines, quiet greenery, and just enough structure to let things unfold naturally. We walked, paused when it felt right, and let the moments come to us instead of forcing anything. The kind of time that feels less like a photoshoot and more like just being together.

Chicago Illuminating Company Wedding Ceremony
By the time we arrived back at the Chicago Illuminating Company, the energy of the day had shifted in the best way. Lauren & Ben had a private ketubah signing with just their immediate family before guests started arriving. Afterwards, surrounded by the people who mean the most, they exchanged their vows and rings. There were smiles, tears of joy, and laughter throughout the room.

Reception at Chicago Illuminating Company
As the evening unfolded, the space came to life in a different way. Conversations turned into laughter, and the room filled with a kind of warmth that only comes from people who genuinely enjoy being together. They created custom cocktails for their guests—small, thoughtful details that immediately made the night feel personal. Dinner was done family style, in line with how the whole day was.
The dance floor opened up with Lauren & Ben’s first dance together and with their parents afterwards, before the energy kicked up with the Hora. As the lights dimmed and sparkled off the disco ball, the music kept the vibes going and everyone singing along. Lauren had a dance change to keep up with the party of the night. For their evening snack, they leaned into the city in the most Chicago way possible—a late-night hot dog stand. It was simple, a little unexpected, and exactly right. Guests gathered around, laughing, grabbing food, staying present in the moment. Especially for those who traveled in, it felt like a small piece of the city being shared with them.

Why I Love Photographing Chicago Illuminating Company Weddings
Weddings like this are a reminder that it’s never really about the timeline or the details on their own. The Chicago Illuminating Company has a way of holding space for that. It doesn’t compete for attention—it allows the people, the moments, and the energy of the day to take the lead. And that’s always what I’m drawn to.
Chicago Wedding Photographer
If you’re planning your own Chicago Illuminating Company wedding—or a wedding anywhere in the city—my approach is simple: I’ll guide you when you need it, but for the most part, I’m paying attention to what’s already there. The in-between moments, the way things actually felt. If that resonates with you, I’d love to connect with you.
