As a Chicago wedding photographer, there are some weddings that just feel like coming home—and Lena and Charles’ wedding at The Dalcy in Chicago was exactly that. It was elegant, personal, and deeply rooted in what really matters: family, connection, and love that’s been nurtured over time.

From the moment I met them, I knew they were my kind of people. High school sweethearts, strong family values, always down for a good time. Their story started just blocks apart from each other, in the same neighborhood they now walk through hand-in-hand. That sense of closeness and familiarity carried through every part of their day.

A Day That Felt Like Home

From the very beginning, there was a sense of familiarity to everything. The kind that doesn’t need to be created—it just exists.

They chose to start the celebration with a welcome dinner at The Westin Chicago River North, and within minutes, it was clear how connected everyone was. Family, friends, years of shared history—it all showed up in the way people interacted, not just in what was being said. It never felt like I was stepping into a wedding. It felt like stepping into something already in motion.

Getting Ready & Time with Their People

The next morning carried that same energy. Nothing rushed, nothing overly structured—just time spent with their respective parties. I loved that they chose to get ready in the homes they grew up in. All the memories on the walls, so meaningful as they start the next journey together. Quiet conversations, shared laughter, the kind of moments that don’t ask for attention but end up meaning the most.

A Ceremony Rooted in Connection

Their ceremony was moving from the very first moment—Charles couldn’t hold back tears as Lena walked down the aisle. Lena’s siblings shared heartfelt readings, and when the two of them exchanged vows, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. After so many years together, their words carried the weight of a love that had already stood the test of time.

The Dalcy Wedding Reception

The reception was stunning—candlelight flickering off clean architectural lines, thoughtful florals tying it all together. But it never felt overdone. Just warm. Intentional. The kind of space where people felt comfortable leaning into joy.

Weddings like this remind me what it’s all about: not checking boxes or staging moments, but simply giving yourself the space to be surrounded by the people who matter most.

Lena and Charles, thank you for trusting me to document a story already years in the making. Your day was a beautiful reflection of who you are, and it was an honor to be invited in.

If you’re planning your own The Dalcy wedding—or a wedding anywhere in the city—my approach is simple: I’ll guide you when you need it, but for the most part, I’m paying attention to what’s already there. The in-between moments, the way things actually felt. If that resonates with you, I’d love to connect with you.
