There are some weddings that just radiate joy from start to finish—and Laura and Dave’s 70s-inspired wedding at the Foreman Pavilion in Lincoln Park Zoo was exactly that. It was vibrant, emotional, hilarious, and full of the kind of love that reaches beyond just two people.

The weekend kicked off with a welcome reception at Three Avenues Bookstore, where their families gathered for toasts that felt as heartfelt as they were intimate. It set the tone for everything that followed—warm, intentional, and rooted in connection.

On the wedding day, Laura got ready with her mom, sister, and closest friends, while Dave shared the morning with his dad. The vibe was easy, full of nerves and laughter—especially when Dave’s best friend surprised him in a wedding dress (yes, really). One of the most emotional moments came when Laura gave Dave a sentimental gift—his reaction said everything.

Their first look near Lincoln Park Zoo’s South Pond was one of the most moving parts of the day. We had done their engagement session in the same area, so returning there for portraits added an extra layer of meaning.

The Foreman Pavilion made for such a beautiful ceremony space—tucked away inside the zoo, surrounded by birdsong and greenery. It felt like this little hidden corner of Chicago had been set aside just for them. Their vows and he way Laura and Dave looked at each other during the ceremony said everything you needed to know about their love.

As the night continued, the reception brought out some of the funniest toasts I’ve ever heard—I had tears in my eyes from laughing behind the camera. The energy never let up. Laura changed into a hilarious reception dress, and the dance floor stayed packed until the very end.

To know Laura and Dave is to know how deeply they love—not just each other, but their people too. Being invited to document a day like this, full of meaning, memory, and joy… it’s something I’ll never take for granted.

If you’re planning your own Lincoln Park Zoo wedding—or a wedding anywhere in the city—my approach is simple: I’ll guide you when you need it, but for the most part, I’m paying attention to what’s already there. The in-between moments, the way things actually felt. If that resonates with you, I’d love to connect with you.

If you’re still exploring venues, I put together a guide to the best Chicago wedding venues here.

Let's talk about your day. If it sounds like we'd be a good fit, I'd love to hear what you're planning.
