Can’t decide on what to wear for your engagement session? You’re not alone! After all, the photos from your session can be used for your invitations and save-the-dates, it is important for the outfits and photos to feel 100 percent you. Here are a 5 tips to help get you start thinking about your engagement session outfit.
-
Wear clothes that make you feel confident
It could be jeans and a t-shirt, nice blouse and pants, or a flowy dress. You should feel comfortable in the outfit that you both choose. The outfit should be representative of you, but at your absolute best. Choosing clothes that are way outside your normal comfort level can give an awkward and uncomfortable vibe in the photos.
-
Dress Accordingly
Make sure you are planning your outfits are appropriate for both the weather and the location. If it’s freezing out, you don’t want to be thinking about whether or not you’re getting frostbite in your summer dress. Similarly if you are planning on doing some hiking for your engagement session, you might want to leave the heels at home and bring out the hiking boots or flats to change into later.
-
Get your hair and makeup done professionally
I highly recommend doing so whenever it is possible! Not only does it give you a chance to be pampered and a confidence boost, it is the perfect opportunity to have your hair and make up trial with your wedding day stylist. You will be able what your professional makeup will look like in a final gallery to make sure you absolutely love it.
-
Complement Your Outfits
No, this does not mean you should match your outfits and colors, but rather consider complementary colors and solid patterns. I recommend avoiding busy patterns and loud colors as they can be an unnecessary distraction in the photos. Instead opt for more pastels, neutral, earth or cool tones when thinking about your engagement session outfits. We want the primary focus to be on you two and the love that you share.
-
Bring an extra outfit
I recommend bringing a second outfit to change into later in the session. This gives you an opportunity to sport a dressier look and then switching to a more fun and casual outfit. For the ladies, if you are bringing heels for your dressier outfit, make sure you bring a second pair of shoes so you are not walking around in heels for the entire session.
Bonus Tip: Don’t forget to have fun
Don’t worry too much about how you look during your engagement session, I will take care of everything from behind the camera. Focus on one another and treat the session like a date where I am basically documenting it as your third wheel.
I hope these tips help you think about your engagement session outfits. Whether you choose to listen to any of them, that’s up to you! These are not strict rules to follow. At the end of the day, I want you to wear what makes you feel at your best because that is what will be conveyed through the photos.
